Principal's Message: (New!) Dear Heritage Families, Today is the last day to order Heritage spirit wear! Please scroll all the way down to the bottom of this page to order. We are very excited to welcome our “in person” students back to the building using the Hybrid schedule below AND look forward to continuing to serve our virtual students in ways far beyond what we would have imagined last year at this time. As noted, students assigned to “BLUE” will be in-person Mondays and Wednesdays. Students assigned to “GOLD” will be in-person Tuesdays and Thursdays. ALL students will be remote on Fridays (and provided instruction virtually). It is important to note that all students, both in-person and virtual, will be receiving asynchronous instruction on Fridays. At the elementary level, we believe it is crucial for students to continue to have their live morning meeting with their teacher. During these meetings, attendance is taken, teachers check in to support social emotional needs, and classroom culture is fostered. Teachers will check to be sure your child is ready to begin their asynchronous learning for the day. Virtual students/families- We see you. We are proud of the work and routine you will carry throughout the rest of the trimester. In all of the hustle and bustle of getting Hybrid up and running, I want you to know you are not forgotten. We look forward to supporting the Heritage SWARM virtually and on campus. Finally, I want to thank you for your continued support. We know that our success is due to the support we have from our families. Thank you for your continued patience and flexibility. Planner Map Update: (New!) Harcourt Publishing is giving us a discount AND a credit on next year's planners in order to compensate us for the mistake on the world map (Russia is labeled as U.S.S.R..) Your child's teacher will use this as a teachable moment in social studies instruction in the next couple of weeks. Teachers will guide students to correct and/or find, print, cut and paste an updated map over the original. Updates from our school nurse, Karan Hervey:

Principal's Message: (New!) THANK YOU for your patience and support in our first week of virtual learning. It has not been easy, we know. But we are happy to be on this journey with you, learning and growing together! As we progress in this new model of instruction, I am confident things will start to come with ease. HERE are some Zoom tips and expectations for your student(s)/family. In the midst of an eventful first week, we have noticed that the Heritage planner was published for our use with an error on the World Map page. Russia was erroneously labeled at U.S.S.R.. We are in communication with the publishing company to address this issue and will update you soon. Thanks for your understanding as our office works through this. Have a wonderful weekend and week ahead. In Partnership, Megan DeGrand Heritage Principal IMPORTANT Assessment Information: (New!) **Students who are in a hybrid/in-person teaching class read this message: The week of September 21st will be an asynchronous week of instruction for our K-5 learners. Teachers will be reaching out to schedule a time to complete your child’s Screening #1- Individual Reading Assessment (Running Record) . This one on one time with your child will offer valuable feedback and insight to drive literacy instruction. For this week, your child will have more asynchronous lessons that week. This will allow your teacher to be able to meet with students in person or virtually for the screening. You can still expect your child’s classroom and specials teacher to schedule live touch points (more details to follow) with the class, provide meaningful learning opportunities for students, and offer feedback via Seesaw. There will be a second screening assessment, Screening #2 (Acadience), that will be coordinated when students are back in-person during the hybrid period. **Students who are in a fully Virtual teaching class read this message: The week of September 21st, Saline Area Schools will be completing two academic screenings. Due to this needed screening time, your child will have more asynchronous lessons that week. This will allow your teacher to be able to meet with students in person or virtually for the screening. Your family will need to sign up for two different screening sessions:
Again, thank you for a great start to the virtual school year! Hybrid Transition: Looking ahead, if conditions are conducive to in-person instruction, the district plan is to begin a hybrid attendance model beginning September 28th. This would mean that students (who selected the “in-person” model of instruction) would attend on an alternating daily schedule, referenced as Blue/Gold days. Students whose last name begins with: *A-K would attend on Blue Days. *L-Z would attend on Gold Days. *In order to balance the number of students in attendance, classroom teachers may be reaching out to make individual shifts to the model above. **Saline Area Schools maintains a webpage full of information specific to the COVID related return to school information. Access it HERE ** Principal's Message: It was great to see so many families at Heritage this past week! Schools are made for kids and so having our 4th and 5th graders on campus, and in the spirit of a new school year, felt good. This past week, I sent many emails. This was an effort to equip our Heritage families with the information they needed to get started for the 2020-21 School Year. Moving forward, I promise you will not receive so many emails. You can expect one weekly memo each Sunday. Looking ahead, if conditions are conducive to in-person instruction, the district plan is to begin a hybrid attendance model beginning September 28th. This would mean that students (who selected the “in-person” model of instruction) would attend on an alternating daily schedule, referenced as Blue/Gold days. Looking forward to a great school year! In Partnership, Megan DeGrand Heritage Principal School Pictures: We have not scheduled school pictures for Heritage, yet. We put a hold on this to see how the year unrolls. Once we have a date determined (maybe as far out as spring to account for uncertainty), we will send out information with plenty of notice. You can also call the school office. Attendance will be accounted for starting September 8th. Heritage Office- (734) 401-4100 Specials: For the first 3 weeks of virtual instruction, the specials team has come up with a suggested schedule for kids to follow. Assignments will be pushed out on Seesaw Sunday nights so students can complete them whenever they’d like throughout the week! PTO: This year presents many challenges for fundraising and planning.
