Dear Families, With Superintendent Graden's announcement on 12/4 (see below), I want to reiterate how impressed I am with the hard work of our teachers, staff, students and FAMILIES. It really takes a village. Schooling from a remote setting is not something any of us anticipated when seeking out this profession or in planning for our children's public education. Thanks to all of you for making the best of a difficult environment. We are doing the best we can and that's what counts. HERE is a resource you might find helpful when your student/family needs a minute to just decompress. Have a great week ahead. In Partnership, Megan DeGrand Heritage Principal On the Heritage Horizon
Superintendent’s Message (NEW!) December 4th, 2020 Saline Families and Staff, Our community has been facing many challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall positive case counts continue to rise, hospitals are filling and most concerning, data shows consistent growth rates in the 48176 zip code and school aged (0-17) populations. Our students, staff, and families are all being impacted in some way. Beyond health and safety (our forefront priority), our ability to staff teachers, necessary support staff and substitutes for in-person learning is simply unsustainable at this time. As a result, all Saline Y5-12th grade students will continue in the remote learning model through Friday, January 8th, 2021. This decision is based on the local community spread and our ability to operate the in-person school day. In addition, our leadership team believes that the best thing we can do for students at this time is to provide a consistent instructional model. On Monday, January 11th, 2021, we will return to hybrid learning for all students who selected this model (if local conditions allow). Further information will be provided to you the week following winter break, after careful evaluation based on the surrounding climate and recommendations of local health authorities. During discussion this morning with the Washtenaw County Health Department, officials indicated optimism that a vaccine will be available in the very near future. This information provides a bright spot for our return to normal school. Other important considerations:
We recognize that the fully remote learning model is difficult for everyone. Please be considerate this holiday season with travel, visitations and mingling of households. The commitment of the entire community to mitigate the spread is necessary to provide a safe return to school for Saline students. Thank you for your patience and support with our decision making process. In Partnership, Scot Graden Superintendent Lunch with Mrs. Deneen Lunch with Mrs. Deneen is at 12:30pm Your student can join for an optional lunch get-together on 12/8 and 12/10 using the Zoom link below.
