At Heritage, we hope to support you in your traditions and value the partnership we have with our families. If your student needs accommodations during times of celebration, please reach out to your student’s teacher. (For example, if your student is fasting we can provide an alternate location for them during lunchtime). Enjoy the the week ahead and have a great spring break! In partnership, Megan DeGrand
4th Grade Music Message: (New!) We are excited to take all 4th-grade students to Saline High School on Thursday, March 23 for the 4th Grade Music Assembly. On Thursday morning after attendance is taken, our 4th-grade classes will hop on our school buses and take a trip over to Saline High School where our Saline High School students will put on a special concert just for them! This concert will feature band, choir, and orchestra performances from our high school music students. This opportunity allows our current 4th graders to see and hear the music options they have for next year. For example, how does a student know if they want to be in an orchestra if they've never heard an orchestra before? This special event is the kick-off to students learning about our music offerings that begin in 5th grade. All of Saline's 5th-grade students participate in band, choir, or orchestra instead of the general music class offered K-4. When students return from spring break, they will learn about the string, wind, percussion, and choral offerings we have for next year. In May, students will be completing their music selection form for next fall's music placements. Please ask your student about this special event and what they learned through this experience. It is our hope that students are excited about their upcoming music journey in Saline's music program! 4th Graders will be back at Heritage before lunch and will continue their normal routine for the rest of the day. We hope you enjoy the upcoming spring break and look forward to the musical adventures that await us when we return in April! Thank you, Judy Hayes 4th Grade Music Teacher The Heritage Buzz Issue #3: (New!) Check out another issue of our STUDENT LED school newspaper below!

Message from Mrs. DeGrand: (New!) Dear Families, In 2020, the Saline Area Schools' community came together to write a 3 Year DEI Action Plan. The time has come to revisit and revise this plan. The Saline Area Schools' Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee has partnered with an independent organization, Sensei Change Associates, to facilitate focus groups in order to collect feedback and input on the next iteration of this plan. If you are interested in providing feedback and input on this plan, please let us know by completing THIS FORM. (The plan is linked in the response form.) Your input and collaboration are valued. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Channon N. Washington at [email protected] or Principal Laura Washington at [email protected]. Thank You! Trimester 3 is here! The specials department wants to make you aware of an upcoming shift in the 4th grade specials schedule. Starting Monday, March 13th, iLab will be 75 minutes and Art will be changing to 37 minutes and will be paired with Mrs. Rosselot in PE for another 37 minutes. Your child's classroom teacher will have your schedule so you can prepare for PE days with appropriate shoes. Please reach out to Mrs. Myers or I if you have any questions. Enjoy the the week ahead! 4th Grade Music News! (New) The students are doing a great job in music this month as they learn new songs and are doing an Irish Jig. The students have spent the past few weeks learning how to read music notes on the staff. We practiced writing music on the board, and on paper, placing letters on magnetic staff boards, and counting the lines and spaces on our hands. They've worked as a whole class, with partners, and independently. Standard 2 on the trimester 2 report card for music is about identifying notes and learning to read music. If your student receives a "1" in this standard, it means that they have not yet displayed an understanding of note reading. Many students struggle with the spatial relationship of lines and spaces. We will continue working on these concepts throughout the rest of the year and I am confident that most students will secure these reading skills before finishing 4th grade. Thank you for your support and patience as we learn many new things at Heritage! Mrs. Hayes 4th Grade Music Teacher A Message About Washtenaw County National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID), March 13th.: (New!) Due to circumstances beyond the control of the planning committee, such as inclement weather and numerous illness related cancellations, student entries have been delayed. After much consideration, the committee will delay NAAPID events and reschedule later in April. Please look for future communications.
