Principal's Message: (New!) Heritage Families, Thank you for your all around generosity! We've had a surge of donations for our Generosity Project drive to support Ukraine. A variety of items will be boxed and shipped out after collection ends on May 4th. Big thanks to Lindsay Bogdasarian for including Heritage in this important work! Additionally, thank you for the generous donations for Staff Appreciation week May 2-6th. The Heritage Staff is so lucky to have the support and kindness from our wonderful parents and community. Mr. Cochran and I are honored to lead and work with the best around! Above are some PTO provided (and free or low cost) ways to say "thank you". Of course, a simple smile is the best of all. Have a wonderful first week of May! (Please Note: We have had to cancel this week's anticipated Popcorn Friday on 5/6.) Important Information for 4th Grade Families: (New!) Hello & welcome to the SAS Music program! We are excited to have your student joining our 5th-grade music program next fall! All students in 5th grade participate in either band, choir, or orchestra. In April, our students completed a unit to learn about the instrument choices for band/orchestra and the types of activities included in choir. Students will make 3 selections based on their interests before being placed in a music class for next fall. Below is the presentation that your student has explored in music class. Please review and discuss these options at home so that you can help your child make selections that you support and feel comfortable with. After reviewing the slideshow, please complete the music selection form with your child's top three choices. This form is sent directly to YOU and not to students to ensure parent consent. The form can be found on the last slide in the link below. * Please review the "Things to Consider" on slide 5 and the monthly costs explained on slide 9 before making selections. Please only complete the selection form once for each student entering 5th-grade next fall. After an assignment is made, you will receive information about band/choir/orchestra and the needed materials for the selected class. Music Slideshow and Selection Form Please watch for more information coming your way and feel free to contact us if you have any questions along the way. Principal's Message: (New!) Heritage Families, We are very excited to introduce a new service project brought to us by The Generosity Project (www.thegenproject.org). We will be collecting hygiene items and school supplies to send to the people of Ukraine. The Generosity Project has partnered with Give Back Box and Lifting Hands International to put together this project. The items will be collected at Heritage from April 25-May 4. Each classroom will be assigned a specific item. Once collected, The Generosity Project will ship the items to Romania where they will be distributed to Ukrainian refugees or trucked into Ukraine. It will depend on where the need is at the time the items arrive. Lifting Hands International has a team on the ground in Romania that will decide where they are most needed. Please see below to find what item your child’s class is collecting. Donations are not mandatory and are completely anonymous. Any questions please reach out to Lindsay Bogdasarian at [email protected]. Thanks so much for your help! In Partnership, Megan DeGrand Heritage School Principal Message from Heritage PTO: (New!) ATTENTION 5th Grade Camper Families: (New!) If you sent your student to 5th Grade camp with medication, please pick it up in the Heritage Office (if you haven't already). We have quite a bit left behind. Thanks! Music News for 4th Graders: Dear Heritage Families, During the month of April, 4th grade Heritage students will begin learning about the music classes available to them next fall. In 5th and 6th grade, all students enrolled in SAS participate in band, orchestra, or choir. In music class, students will be learning about their music options through lessons that introduce string, wind, percussion instruments, and choral activities. During music class, we will introduce the instruments and activities in each ensemble and will help guide students on how to choose one that is a good fit for them. At this time, students will not be handling or playing any instruments during this process. Once students have completed this rotation, parents will receive a summary of these music options as well as more detailed information about each program including equipment needs and rental costs. Students will be asked to choose their top three music choices for next year. We will use this feedback to place students in their music class for the fall. Students will receive confirmation of their assigned music class before the end of this school year so that families will have time to get equipment ordered over the summer and ready by the fall! If you are interested in learning more about these options along with your student, we plan to send informational slides home in the weeks ahead. We encourage you to talk with your child as they progress through the rotation to see what interests them and discuss their options at home. If you have questions once you have received all of the materials in April, contact information will be provided so that we can help. Thank you, Heritage Music Dept. 4th Grade Visits Weber Blaess: Our 4th-grade classes are preparing to visit Weber Blaess this spring! Principal's Message: (New!) Dear Families, The SAS Wellness Committee is seeking input from students, regarding trusted staff members in our schools. This survey will be shared with students beginning the week of April 18th and will be open through April 29th. The purpose is to gather information to better understand how supported our students feel while they are at school. The results of this survey will be seen by members of the Wellness Committee and district leaders. A summary of the results will be shared in the Wellness Committee’s presentation to the School Board in June. This survey was developed by the Wellness Committee’s steering committee and will be offered to students in the 4th through 12th grades. You can preview the survey’s questions HERE. The main offices at Heritage, Saline Middle School, Saline High School, and Saline Alternative High School will have a paper copy of the survey for preview upon request. The Wellness Committee’s SAS Student Support survey is anonymous and completely voluntary. Students will not be penalized or addressed for choosing not to participate. Classroom teachers will distribute and facilitate the survey. If you do not want your student to participate, please let the classroom teacher know. If you have any questions, please reach out to Musetta Deneen at [email protected]. Lastly, we wish everyone celebrating this weekend: Happy Ramadan, Happy Easter and Happy Passover!
